The Straum Expedition

Straum is proud to announce the Expedition, the first model in the brand's new Technical collection. With this release, Straum expands its universe into two clearly defined pillars: Inspired By and Built For, united under a new brand direction: Inspired by, built for, Norwegian Nature.

While the Inspired By collection translates the textures, colours, and atmosphere of Norwegian landscapes into expressive dial designs, the Expedition represents the Built For philosophy. Every decision has been made with practical performance in mind. Legibility, durability, comfort, and reliability take priority over decoration, resulting in Straum's most purpose-driven watch to date.

The Expedition introduces a redesigned Grade 5 titanium case with a bezel diameter of 38.2mm. Although familiar in size to the Jan Mayen series, the new architecture has been developed specifically for demanding environments. The broader case flank profile helps deflect impacts away from the crystal, a stepped bezel reduces the surface area of the highest plane of the case, and an enlarged screw-down crown is easier to operate with cold or gloved hands.

The watch is paired with a quick-release black FKM rubber strap as standard and is also available on Straum's new Grade 5 titanium bracelet. As with every Straum strap system introduced to date, the Expedition remains fully compatible with existing straps and accessories.

The dial is equally focused on clarity. Large Arabic numerals at 12, 3, 6, and 9 anchor the display. The date display at 6 o'clock is printed in high-contrast Fluor Orange as is the Expedition signature above it and the tip of the seconds hand. Generous applications of BGW9 Grade A Super-LumiNova ensure outstanding night-time visibility, with a segmented minute hand designed to improve orientation at a glance and a luminous circle on the seconds hand allowing users to confirm the movement is running in darkness.

Three versions are available at launch: a white, fully luminous foil dial with black PVD hour indexes; a titanium dial paired with white casted lume indices and numerals; and a special launch edition in "Midnight Blue", which also uses the solid white casted lume hour markers, and is limited to just 200 pieces. All three models feature black chapter rings with white minute markings. The White Lume and Titanium dials carry black PVD hands, while the Midnight Blue Launch Edition pairs nickel-plated hour and minute hands with a black PVD seconds hand. Every handset is generously filled with white Super-LumiNova. All lume elements across dials and handsets employ BGW9 Grade A Super-LumiNova.

Turning the watch over reveals a new closed, screw-down caseback featuring an etched illustration of a lone hiker standing atop a Norwegian cliff beneath a star-filled sky. Looking towards the horizon across the sea, the figure is illuminated by the Straum "S" logo, which replaces the moon above. It serves as a reminder that every Straum watch begins in the same place: out in Norwegian nature.

"The Expedition is probably the clearest expression yet of what Straum wants to become," says Øystein Helle Husby, co-founder and Managing Partner. "Our previous collections have always started with inspiration. We'd spend time outdoors, come home with ideas, and build watches around those experiences. Expedition starts somewhere different. Instead of asking what Norwegian nature looks like, we asked what it demands from the equipment you trust when you're out there. Every decision on this watch follows that line of thinking."

Lasse Roxrud Farstad, co-founder and Head of Product Development, adds: "Titanium was the obvious choice. Beyond the weight savings, it behaves differently in extreme temperatures. It stays comfortable on the wrist and retains its dimensions exceptionally well, making it an ideal material for a watch designed to spend its life outdoors. The new case, enlarged crown and simplified dial all came from the same process. Nothing is there because it looks technical. It's there because it makes the watch easier to use."

The Straum Expedition enters the core collection with the White Lume and Titanium Gray models. The Midnight Blue Launch Edition is strictly limited to 200 pieces worldwide. All three references become available for pre-order from 18:00 CET on August 24th, 2026, on straum.co. Straum Expedition ships March 2027.
