Straum’s new sports watch may be the best-looking version I’ve seen of its flagship model.

Everything culminates in a watch that “punches above its weight”, an old phrase, but here entirely justified.

It is, quite frankly, one of the most stunning and evocative dials I’ve encountered in the microbrand space, perhaps ever.

The casework is solid, with sharp transitions and attention to detail, like radial brushing on the bezel.

Given the continued popularity of integrated bracelet sports watches, especially in line with the broader trend towards sub-40mm sports watches, I think that the new Jan Mayen line is a solid step forward for Straum.

Straum’s inaugural model was one of the more stunningly beautiful and aesthetically ambitious watches we’d ever seen from a true microbrand.
